Ist der iMac 27" mit i7 Quad-core Prozessor als DICOM PACS Workstation schnell?

Heute wurde der iMac 27" mit i7 Prozessor geliefert. Schon beim Starten von OsiriX PRO fällt auf, dass das Starten der Anwendung sehr schnell geht. Beim Laden von großen Datensätzen folgt die erste Überraschung: Eine CT DICOM Serie mit 1121 Bildern (512er Matrix, 16bit) wird in 6 Sekunden in den Arbeitsspeicher geladen. Wir hatten bisher beim MacPRO immer knapp 10 Sekunden gemessen.

Ein 3D Volumerendering dieses Datensatzes zeigt die Leistungsfähigkeit des Prozessors deutlich: In höchster Qualitätsstufe läßt sich das Volumen im Vollbild (4 MP) ruckelfrei und ohne "Verpixelung" rotieren. Dafür musste vorher eine VolumePro Karte von Terarecon verwendet werden, die soviel kostet wie sieben gut ausgestattete iMacs.

Fazit: Der iMac 27" mit i7 Prozessor ist die ultimative DICOM PACS Workstation und schont den Geldbeutel.

Update: New iMac 27" with Magic Mouse as a DICOM PACS workstation

The new iMac 27" with its Magic Mouse is an attractive option for a PACS workstation: The brilliant 27" display with LED-background lighting passed the European DIN 6868-57 test in both categories A and B which allows the iMac to be used as a DICOM PACS workstation for diagnosing and post-processing tasks. Update: Neuer iMac 27" mit Magic Mouse als DICOM PACS Workstation

Wie bereits im Oktober 2009 hier berichtet ist der neue iMac 27" mit Magic Mouse eine interessante Alternative als PACS Workstation.

Nachdem Apple die Liefer- und Verpackungsprobleme, die in verschiedenen Blogs berichtet wurden, gelöst hat, stand einem ausführlichen Test der Hardware nichts im Wege.

Das brillante 27" Display mit LED-Hintergrundbeleuchtung besteht die Abnahmeprüfung gemäß DIN 6868-57 in Kategorie A und in Kategorie B. Dadurch läßt sich der iMac 27"als vollwertige DICOM PACS Workstation für die Befundung und das Postprocessing einsetzen. Am integrierten Mini Displayport kann ein zweites Display als weiterer Befundunsgmonitor oder als RIS-Monitor betrieben werden.

ECR 2010: Call for OsiriX best-practice presentations

At ECR 2010 in Vienna we will hold 4 days of OsiriX Hands-on workshops. There will be 16 1-hour hands-on workshops with 12 Apple Macintosh 27" iMacs regarding basic and advanced topics. The attendance for the workshops is free and registration is through the European Society of Radiology.

Between the workshops we want users to present their daily work with OsiriX to the European OsiriX Community.

Please submit your lectures regarding OsiriX. If you are an OsiriX user and want to share your best-practice experiences we encourage you to send your presentations until January 25th 2010.

OsiriX plugin: BullsEye

There is a new OsiriX plugin available, called BullsEye.

The BullsEye plugin shows a BullsEye vectorial image. This image can be manually edited, and saved as PDF or DICOM file.

It is available as a download via the OsiriX plugins manager.
