iPad 3 successfully completed the acceptance test as medical image display

After we received the new iPad 3, we used the opportunity to check its display.

For radiology applications as a medical image display, an acceptance test according to DIN V 6868-57 is necessary. All required measurements and visual inspections for a proper acceptance are defined in this standard. Therefore, in addition to geometrical properties, also luminance measurements and display homogeneity measurements were performed.

Apples iPad 3 successfully completed the acceptance test as medical image display according to category A. Because of its high pixel densities (Retina Display) the human eye is not able to resolve each individual pixel from a viewing distance of 30 cm. With a resolution of 2048x1536 pixels, the iPad 3 is now the leading mobile device for medical images.

The acceptance test was performed with specially developed iPad App software, which is exclusively available at aycan.

Conclusion: The new iPad convinced with a qualitative excellent 3 MP Display.
